Topic #2: Food and Agriculture Issues

Why did you choose this?
I chose this because Most of our population is poor and hungry. They don't have good enough conditions to grow things and feed themselves and they don't have enough money to buy food.
10 Facts:
-When food prices went up, effecting the poor people most, there were a lot of riots which caused an overthrow of a Prime Minister and lots of deathseverywhere
-Food levels continue to overpower the demand even in a growing population
-While the news reports have been concentrating on some of the immediate causes, it looks as though the more intense issues and causes have not been talked about as much
-Food aid is a real major part of helping to decrease world hunger
-Food aid comes in different forms and a lot of times it's criticized for helping donors and their interests more than recipients like during the Cold War in particular, food dumping was common -Overall, food aid looks like it still helps the rich more than the poor
-Meaningful long-term relief of hunger is based on the relief of poverty and poverty leads to hunger
-If efforts are only directed at providing food or improving food production or distribution then hunger, poverty and dependency would still remain
-Free financial support or cheap food below market prices doesn't help local farmers who can't compete and then they have to stop their business and they end up in poverty which slants the market share of the larger producers like the ones from the U.S. and Europe
-There isn't a lot of food but it's international trade, economic policies and the control of land that led to big poverty and hunger and so it's the hard access to food and not that there isn't enough food because of the over population
Can you see this as your exit project?
I don't think i can because I'm not that interested in this topic even though I do a lot of things at my church helping out with making or packaging food. I have fun but i don't think this is the topic I'd like to stick with for the rest of the year.
What questions do you have?
Why are people so selfish? Especially the people who don't even think about what's around them and what's happening in the world.
